  Thank you for your interest in the plants that we offer. You would be staggered at the diversity and subtlety that nature uses to catch insects for food for the plants. Apart from being great fly controls, Carnivorous Plants are really very beautiful in most peoples opinions, especially the pitcher plants and sundews. These prices are retail prices direct from the nursery. Garden Centres, please enquire about our bulk prices, and wholesale catalogue.

Pitcher Plants

These magnificent plants have both wonderful flowers and foliage. The tall trumpet pitchers range in size up to an incredible 1 meter for well matured plants. They are terribly effective fly catchers  and are elegant to even the casual observer. The flowers are of various colours and generally sell for $2.50 each here in Christchurch! Just for the flowers. That shows the majesty of them. Pitcher plants are easy care….just add sun and water to them. No fertiliser, no trouble…..easier than most normal house plants.

Venus Fly Trap

Renowned around the world, the Venus Fly Trap has held the imagination of mankind for centuries. Charles Darwin referred to it as the most wonderful plant in the world. The plants that we sell are not tissue cultured so they are very hardy compared to most plants offered for sale in garden centres. Easy care; just add water and sun. If you don’t play with the traps the life of the plant is greatly increased….some of ours are over 10 years old! Great buying at specially reduced prices.

Sundews

The Dew of the Sun plants get their name from the sparkly foliage that allures the insects. In full sun, these plants are absolutely beautiful, especially in large clumps. We sell them in pots of 3 – 4. Generally they are sold commercially singularly for $9 upwards.  These are a great buy as they are very hard to kill and multiply quickly given water and full sun. Easy plants to grow and a must for the curious mind. The dew capped tentacles actually fold over the prey in some species.

For all orders, please add $10 for postage up to 3 plants, $15 for up to 6 and $20 for 7+. If this is not added plants will be deducted from the order to cover this.

Carnivorous Classrooms is a pack of activities, curriculum idea's, fun and equally as importantly, a wide range of plants which utilise different means of catching their food.

The activities in this pack were designed by Michelle Share and are a heap of educational fun. Most area's of the New Zealand curriculum are addressed and there is a reference section to other resources, including websites, books, films, television shows and school journals.
